Deep burgundy and rust forms outlined in white against a raw cream ground — the darkest, most tonally saturated piece in the Terra Forms series. The color shifts from near-black at the center to burnt orange at the right edge, and the surface reads like stained or oxidized clay rather than paint. Field Notes

Part of Terra Forms — a series drawn from Northern California's ceramic tradition. No. 09 pulls from a different end of that material history: iron-rich clay bodies fired in reduction atmospheres, surfaces that darken and mottle unpredictably, the deep maroons you find in unglazed stoneware left in a wood kiln. The tonal variation here isn't designed — it's the kind of color that happens when material chemistry takes over. The white outline and notched upper right corner are the only geometric anchors in an otherwise organic surface.

Works well in spaces that already have dark wood, aged leather, or deep wall color — this is the piece in the collection that holds its own in a sophisticated, less-neutral room. Pairs with No. 03 or No. 06 for a focused arrangement in darker earth tones. Framed and ready to hang.
