Notation No. 15: Green Loose Weave

The green here is a true middle-ground sage — not too warm, not too cool, with a flat matte quality that lets the lines sit on top without competing. The lines themselves are fine and continuous, running mostly horizontal and vertical but bowing and curving enough that nothing stays straight for long. Where they cross they create small irregular cells, denser in some areas and more open in others, like looking at a loosely woven fabric or a tangle of grass stems laid flat. There's no focal point and no edge treatment — the lines just run off the sides as if the surface is a window onto a larger field. Part of The Notation Studies, a collection of pattern-based work built on color fields and incised detail. This piece shares DNA with the olive hash mark entry (No. 09) in that it's one of the more organic works in the set, but the gesture here is continuous rather than stamped — long, wandering lines instead of short, stacked marks. The green gives it strong versatility as a supporting piece in a gallery wall, especially alongside warmer terracotta or coral entries from the collection. On its own it reads as quiet and grounded.
