Notation No. 13: Coral Glow Grid

The field here shifts from a dusty rose at the edges to a warmer coral-orange at center, with a fine granular texture throughout that looks almost like risograph grain or spray. Over that sits a grid — but it's more implied than drawn. The lines themselves are faint and barely visible; what catches your eye are the intersections, where each crossing point flares into a soft four-pointed star shape, brighter and more saturated than the surrounding field. The effect is less "grid" and more "light array" — it reads like looking at a tiled wall through frosted glass, or a heat map where every node is gently lit. The grid doesn't cover the full surface; it fades out toward the lower right, leaving stretches of uninterrupted gradient. Part of The Notation Studies, a collection of pattern-based work built on color fields and incised detail. This piece sits at the opposite end of the spectrum from the black-and-white entries — it's the softest, warmest, most atmospheric work in the set. It barely looks like it has a pattern until you spend a minute with it. Pair it with something sharper and darker if you want contrast, or let it sit alone where it can just be warm.
