Notation No. 05: Pink Crosshatch Grid

Forty-two squares, give or take, arranged in neat rows on a muted rose ground. Each square is filled with its own crosshatch pattern — fine white lines running at slightly different angles and densities so no two cells are identical, even though they're all doing the same thing. Some are tighter and more opaque, others are loose enough to let the pink bleed through. The effect is systematic but handmade, like a sampler or a weaver's test grid cataloging variations of the same stitch. The brushed edges of the pink field give the whole piece the quality of a pulled monoprint — something made in a single pass and not repeated. Part of The Notation Studies, a collection of pattern-based work built on flat color fields and incised detail. This is one of the gentler entries in the set. It's structured enough to feel intentional but soft enough to disappear into a room without competing. Pairs naturally with other warm-toned pieces or holds its own next to something darker and more graphic.
