Notation No. 02: Coral Grid & Scatter

A soft grid sits on top of a coral and amber field that shifts temperature from left to right — cooler pink on the left, warmer orange on the right. The grid lines aren't mechanical; they waver and skip like they were drawn freehand on an uneven surface. Scattered across the whole thing are white dots and tiny voids — some clustered, some isolated — that read like perforations, or data points plotted on a coordinate system that doesn't quite hold together. It's busy up close and calm from across the room, which is the point. Part of The Notation Studies, where every piece starts with a color field and builds detail into it. This one layers three systems on top of each other — the gradient, the grid, the scatter — and lets them coexist without resolving. The raw edges and printmaker texture give it a physical quality that photographs well but looks even better on archival paper. Pairs well with neutral or black-and-white pieces that let it carry the color.
