Field Notes

From the Northern California Flora Archive. Wild fennel lines the roads and field margins of the Napa Valley and Sonoma County — one of the most recognizable plants in the region despite being non-native. The plant's structure is its signature: long hollow stems that branch and divide, each tip carrying a loose cluster of thread-like fronds. This study focuses on that branching geometry, three stems rendered in clean white lines against black.
