Survey Flags

Before anything gets built in Northern California — before the winery expansion, the subdivision, the infrastructure project — someone walks the land with stakes and ribbon. Survey flags: red plastic caught on wire, snapping in the afternoon wind off the valley. They mark what's coming without showing it. Survey Flags captures that charged emptiness — the moment before transformation when a site is nothing but potential and geometry. Elements pressed to the canvas edges as if the wind just put them there: a black mass anchoring the upper left, a red ribbon trailing across the top, two crimson stakes forming a cross in the lower left, a black circle arc cutting in from the right like a compass bearing mid-swing. The center holds nothing. That's the whole argument. A large-format minimalist abstract print for interiors confident enough to let white space work. The piece that makes every other piece on the wall feel more intentional by contrast.
