Piedmont

The piedmont is the transition zone — where the Mayacamas or the Vaca Mountains stop being mountains and become valley floor, where winter creek water fans out across flat ground and deposits everything it carried down from elevation. It's the most geologically complex and visually rich terrain in Northern California, and the least talked about. Not the dramatic ridge, not the flat agricultural plain — the soft, layered middle ground where everything mixes.
