Warm neutral abstract wall art built from dense directional mark-making — fine lines applied in overlapping, radiating clusters across a cream ground, building mass and shadow in warm taupe. The marks shift direction throughout, giving the surface a physical energy that the other pieces in the series don't have. Works well in a living room, dining room, or bedroom where you want a neutral piece that still has presence and movement. Natural wood frame ties into the warm taupe without adding visual weight.

Field Notes

Part of the Material Trace Studies — a series about surfaces and what they record. No. 09 is the most gestural piece in the collection. Where the other works use systematic line, grid, or field, this one builds mass through accumulation — the way dry grass compresses and interlocks on a California hillside in late summer, or the way chalk builds up on a working surface over time. The marks aren't decorative; they're the evidence of repeated directional pressure.

Framed and ready to hang. The square format and all-over energy make it flexible — works as a standalone or as the most textured anchor in a neutral gallery wall. Pairs with No. 03 for a contrast between scattered marks and massed ones.
