Field Notes

From the Northern California Flora Archive. The cream border and deckled edges reference herbarium mounting — the way field-collected specimens get pressed onto card stock for scientific archives. The kelp inside doesn't sit still for it: forms cropped, overlapping, the botanical source material pushed toward something more angular and graphic. The cold-water kelp forests off Bodega Bay and Point Reyes are dense, tangled environments, and this piece carries some of that compression.
