Field Notes

After the intensity of the middle arc, this piece opens back up — almost entirely white, textured like plaster or dried earth, with the event compressed into the lower-left corner where deep red-burgundy ground meets a grey-black smoke column still rising. A thin red diagonal line cuts across the full composition from corner to corner, the only element connecting what happened to all that empty space. It's the long tail of the season — weeks of white sky and a column you can see from the highway. The restraint here makes it one of the collection's most versatile pieces, working in minimal contemporary spaces, bedrooms, or alongside other Burn Season pieces where the contrast between this and the saturated middle works tells the full story.
